January 2023 Beginner Class hits the mark

The first Beginner Archery Class of 2023 got under way on Saturday 28 January, with a group of 15 newcomers trying the sport for the first time.

The Beginner Class runs for 5 weeks, with our certified coaches guiding the lessons from 12-2pm every Saturday.

Students learn the basics of shooting a bow at a close distance, with the course suited to all ages. Our January class, for instance, ranges in age from 10 to more than 60.

The introductory lesson has students learning the basic form (steps) needed to complete an archery shot.

This is done with a simple stretchy band to simulate the feel of shooting a bow. This is followed by using the orange training bows to shoot their first arrows safely and with control.

Over the course of the 5 weeks students start to regular bows that provide greater accuracy and consistency.

By the end of the course, students will be able to comfortably and confidently shoot from a distance of up to 10m.
